last day of feb

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Our teacher reminded us of a really good thing today. she said we use our bodies as the object of our meditation. that way our minds don’t wander and take us out of our practise. she had to say that today because it was so humid and crowded. it’s amazing how easily people let themselves get defeated.
after practise i pedaled out to my storage space. it used to seem so much further than it does now. it definitely used to take a lot longer than it did today. kind of crazy to think that i’m so much stronger than i was when i last made the trip a few months ago! kind of nice too.
even though kim gordon was always too old to be hot, she was still a little hot since she was in america’s best band in the 80s. use the word fuck. star power. she knows how to make love. it was easy to see why thurston could love her all the time. not only did she have great songs but she always looked cool. urban outfitters had her design some clothes and i gotta say, they’re totally indie-girl hot! you can check out her mirror/dash line at uo. i guess that is also the name of another kim/thurston side project, in case you’re still interested. see you tomorrow, m

lower prices!

Friday, February 27th, 2009

oh man, was it a good class today! i was totally entertained by the woman who practised behind me. she was a metronome when she was standing her stillest! other times, she would just stand there and kick her legs out. all i could do was smile, seriously. i guess that’s what working in a hospital will do to you. i can’t imagine the stress! poor thing, she needed the yoga the most and prolly got the least out of it.

okay, sweat angels, here’s your chance to take advantage of me—I’ve lowered the prices on tank tops! Now they’re a ridiculously low fifteen dollars! i din’t stop there either, i lowered the price of the guy shirt to $15 as well. with prices that low, you’d think i’m crazy eddie. with the economy, the way it is, these price changes are overdue. oh yeah, free shipping on all orders over $50. enjoy ~m

over the hill…

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

oh my gosh, some of the people who practise regularly here in town, like to venture “over the hill” to practise at a different studio. it’s warmer there, they tell me. i think it’d be fun to practise at a different studio every now and again to mix it up. honestly though, how much longer do you want to drive to practise? why would you want to sit in a car for an extra 20 minutes each way? no way, sade, keep that smooth operator to a minimum. i start to feel trapped if i’m in a car for longer than 10 minutes. i really do love the freedom of walking or biking. i can’t imagine practising yoga and then strapping myself to a small chair in a tiny box that moves down a narrow lane with other small boxes all around you—ugh! i’m starting to feel trapped thinking about it! to willingly do it for an even longer amount of time? ‘taint right, ma. okay, that’s it. ~m

aches, pains and frames

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

i have some of the tightest knots in my back, i wish they would go away. for all the yoga i do, you’d think i’d be in tip-top shape. sadly, i have so many years of bad living, i’m only at the beginning of the road to recovery. it was nice to hear my teacher talking about her aches and pains the other day and how she has adjusted her practise to work through them. that’s reassuring to hear! it makes me feel okay with my pains knowing there’s other people in the same boat.
one of my bikram buddies saw the morning video i posted and said my sunglasses were strictly ’80s! i told him i was too young to remember the ’80s. honestly, i have trouble remembering yesterday, let alone the ’80s. rest assured, sweat angels, i do not own a pair of wayfarers! see you tomorrow, m

a short one

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

for the first time in a long time, it was like the 3 bears lived in the studio—everything was just right. the room wasn’t hair-singeing hot, the humidity wasn’t out of control, it was a really “perfect” class. ever since watching the championships, i’ve really been trying to give every pose my all, without really “pacing” myself. the biggest difference i’ve noticed since then? my triceps are sore. well, not that i actually have triceps, but the areas on my arms where they will someday be are sore. i guess that’s a good sign right? see you tomorrow, m
p.s. this girl in santa cruz makes fun friends like these and sells them on her website.

free stuff

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

nobody loves free stuff more than me. after class today, i went to the market next door and scored on the free sample orange slices! class today was seriously debilitating. afterwards, those orange slices hit the spot. it should almost be a requirement of bikram yoga–after class you must have fresh, organic fruit. mmmmmm. before class, my friend gave me this really cool shirt. she drew it and silkscreened it herself—it’s pretty hot, huh?

since i’m on the topic of free stuff, i need to show off the new bike helmet another bikram friend gave to me! can you believe it? my landlord put together a bike for me and now i have a helmet to go with it! oh, thank you lord for the plentiful gifts. ~m

oscar sunday

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

after class, i hit a total wall again. i was surprised at the amount of people in class today. another sweaty one, so when i was done with my chores and about to head home, i realized i was completely drained. the only thing that saved me was the rain in my face as i rode home. it sure did feel nice—it was a light, steady rain—made me feel like a kid, sort of. that gleeful energy got me home for a long nap after lunch. oscar sunday, sweat angels. kate winslet was best actress. she was very hot in the reader. plus it was a great movie too!

man on wire was best documentary but in the birdhouse it was also my nominee for most dramatic, breathtaking and exciting movie of the year! i feel cultured because i’ve read the (children’s) book written about the story. if you get a chance, see this movie, seriously, it was as good as slumdog millionaire! ~m
