this photograph is 100% organic—no crop, no photoshop, just all-natural, in-the-frame, in-the-moment goodness. definitely click on the larger version to see the spray of the wave as the surfboard carves through it.
super big class today, at least 50 people. someone had to practise in front of the teacher’s podium, it was that crowded. lots of first timers and intro weekers this morning. i’m sure you’re thinking, “sweat, what would you say to all those first-timers” well, i’m glad you brought it up because that leads me to another installment of….
beginner’s advice to bikram yoga pt. 10
try. i love the story about bikram sitting on two telephone books, tearing one page out a day to get into fixed-firm pose. you gotta work through your injuries if you wanna recover from them. master each pose *one* *stage* *at* *a* *time* and you won’t hurt yourself because you never go farther than your body will allow. it’s true when sly said, you can make it if you try it. alright friends, that’s enough until tomorrow ~m

“Well i’m glad you brought it up…” You crack me up!!
This post reminded me of something Very Important. Have you read “How Yoga Works” yet? You really must. You will LOVE IT. I would mail you my own copy to borrow, but it’s already loaned out to a friend right now. (I only ever see that book for a couple days at a time, and then it hooks a new reader… I am serious… it’s VERY interesting!)

i loved that book. thanks to the dancingj for chatting it up on her blog! such a great and inspiring tale which i easily devoured! I wanted to read more but it’s a totally complete story at the same time.
what i was going to comment about before I read her comment was that that is one of the greatest teaching tales. so encouraging to people to give it a try. It’s not about getting your foot behind your head, it’s about trying and going to where your body allows to receive the most benefit.
great stuff, thanks for sharing it!

one of my teachers like to say that if you got 1 millimeter farther in a posture each day, over time, you’re make real progress. it’s all about the baby steps!

oh j, i’ve heard about that book! ugh, gotta be honest, i have the hardest time reading anything these days. i read bikram’s orange book twice and i’m stuck in the middle of a book i am actually enjoying, i just never sit down to read. there’s always something, ya know?
thanks hide, i love it too and thought it appropriate for the new year crush.
absolutely a, i’m even about baby step, singular, ha ha!
awww mare, you’re so biased :~}

Oh totally. I have the same problem. If it’s any help/temptation… that book is broken into very short bite sized pieces. It’s like 50 chapters (maybe?) and most of them are probably about 5 pages long. So you could read a chapter a night and be done in less than 2 months… ;)
hcp YAY!! I’m so happy.
