eyes up
this is my best surfing photo from today. the waves were too far out to get anything better than this, but i’m not complaining! i think it was around 3, post bikram, on the cliffs. definitely click to see the larger version, the textures are kinda sweet.
i’ve been doing pretty good without eating before class, but i knew it was gonna be a juicy nooner today. anticipating a sweaty class, i grabbed some quick protein 30 minutes before, yes, i can eat that soon before class! thank god for the new leaf hot food buffet—two teriyaki legs ($1.25!) plus an orange slice from one of the “grazing” stations. a light enough meal to keep me going but not enough to make me vomit. heartbreakers, be careful eating before class, my metabolism is so fast, i can get away with it.
oh boy, the hot room was so humid today, it was one of those classes where i’d get a big swig of sweat if i opened my mouth. ewwwww! gross. made it hard to smile, but sometimes i couldn’t help it. the drama mama in front of me had deer in the headlight eyes almost from the start of class. when we got to party time, one of our first-timers flopped on the ground. our teacher asked him if he was doing okay and he said “yeah, it’s just really intense.” as a class we laughed and then someone said “it’s only gonna get worse.” oooh, that wasn’t what he needed to hear. after that, he pretty much sat out every posture and finally walked out during padangustasana. our teacher tried talking him back into the room during the middle savasana, but he wasn’t having any of it. you know, i’m not a teacher, so i can’t give advice to some beginner’s, but for the rest of you, let me leave you with…
beginner’s advice to bikram yoga pt. 13
keep your eyes up. your body follows your eyes—always keep your eyes looking up in class, at the top of the mirror if you have to, it will keep your energy up and help you stay positive. as soon as you start looking at the ground, your energy will fall, don’t let that happen to you! stay in the game and keep your eyes up. see you tomorrow ~m

Oh McKinley, for padangustasana you keep your eyes ON THE GROUND, 4 feet in front of you, to help with balance :) Only in the advanced class do we lift our gaze to meet our eyes in the mirror :)
