day one

let’s see here, potato chips, kombucha, bike, cute girl. what else does a man need? i guess maybe a cute girl without a wedding band.

well, today was my first day without bikram yoga in over two years. yesterday, the baker suggested i take it easy, maybe go for a walk. well, i went for a walk, with all my yoga gear and walked to class. it was painful. i can barely move without pain, but the walk felt good. i got some nice photos along the way too.

i think i’ll heal quickly—i’m so healthy, how can i not? i’m sucking in my abs a lot to keep my back straight. judging by the body movement i have now, it’ll prolly be two weeks before i can get back on the mat. grrrrr. i’m hoping it’s more like two days, but we’ll see. ~m

    Take it easy – better to heal than to aggravate :)

    Hey M! I’m a long-time reader, first-time commenter and teacher in the DC area. First off, I love your blog! The photos are a fun escape from things on the east coast. I’m fond of your street photos and love how you capture the personality of your subjects. Your advice and observations of the yoga are so insightful and motivational. It has become a favorite part of my day to catch up on the happenings in your world.

    I’ve been very impressed with your daily practice as it is not always easy to figure out the logistics of getting to class, let alone the practice itself. Having said that, I’m really glad that you decided to rest today. I bet it’s disappointing, but it’s just part of the process. It’s a lesson in non-attachment. It may help to ice your back to reduce inflammation. I’m sure that you will heal more quickly. As you said, you’re so healthy! Take it easy! I hope your back is feeling better soon!
    love and peace,

    thanks friends, you’re gonna laugh at me. i was at home, went through a half-hearted pranayama and awkward, said, all i gotta do is go slow. walked to the studio and discovered all kinds of things about how everything is related to the back and one movement can aggravate it even more.

    laura, nice to hear from you! i’m so honored to be part of your day. i hope, even in injury, i can still provide an escape from your day…a lesson in non-attachment that i needed. it feels weird to not practise for 2 days now, but also like a burden was lifted. that being said, a little disappointed. it would have been nice to do 1001 days, but i can start again soon.

    oh, e. kelley congrats on your first 30 in-a-row!! wish i was there to give you a congratulatory hug ;~}
