view from here

that’s the view from here. sitting by the surfer statue on west cliff, another perfect day in santa cruz. i took the day off from bikram and enjoyed the beach, but i’ll be back in the studio tomorrow. definitely click and enjoy the larger version, you can see the paddle surfers or whatever they’re called.

that’s the view from here.” one of the best gories songs, definitely click and enjoy it. i’m gonna go see the gories on thursday! i bought my ticket months ago and now the show is next week. i haven’t been on a trip in a long time, i’m a little nervous, a little excited. trying to decide if i should rent a car or take public transit. obviously, it’s cheaper to take public transit, less hassle than dealing with a car in the city. not only that, if i rent a car, i’m stuck in a little box, paying attention to the road instead of enjoying the view. the advantage of renting a car is that after the show, i can go home. if i take public tranist, i’m stuck in the city until morning. i hate driving, but renting a car means less time away from trixie. i love the freedom that public transit and being on foot gives me, if i want to stop and take a picture, i don’t have to look for a parking spot. that’s the only thing that makes me not want to rent a car. i guess i’m not going on a photo safari, i’m going to see the gories and hopefully take pictures of them. alright, as much as i love the environment, think i’m gonna rent a car for my trip. what do you think? ~m

fire spinning on west cliff.

good class today. tough night. whenever i get totally dissed by a girl, i imagine myself in the hot room, smile and remember all the awful dates i put wonderful women through. “i’m crying but my tears are faraway…” ~m

from the polynesian festival on the wharf.

how was your saturday friends? not only did i bike to the beach and enjoy the sun, i went to the park for the first ever “bobby’s backyard barbeque festival.” two things you may or may not know about me: i hang out in san lorenzo park almost everyday and i love barbeque. the fact that bobby brought one to the other makes him a genius in my blog, i mean, book. this was good eating, mom and dad, you would have enjoyed it. not everyone had fun, some woman named @CaelesP tweeted, “went to rib cookoff today. it was pathetic. 6-8 contestants and a taqueria. not many people there santa cruz is more about vegan than bbq.” hmmmmm, it’s all in your point of view, 6-8 booths to choose from was enough for me. there weren’t a lot of people, but there was a way steady crowd all day. enough squares were around to take over drunk hill and enjoy the bands that played. *plus* the cook-off kept the homeless tweekers out of the park all day. this was my tweet from the actual park: “baking in the park at the barbeque cook-off, r&b jazzy band playing at the duck pond”. you say pathetic, i say awesome, it’s all how you look at it.
just like being in the hot room. your totally hot class is another person’s 90 minutes of bliss. it’s all in your mind, always. see you tomorrow ~m

p.s. check out the pig that din’t enjoy bobby’s backyard bbq festival

wanna get lei’d? snark snark. cool colours from the polynesian festival. click on the picture to really enjoy the details.

perfect day in santa cruz. even though i say i don’t notice the heat, i was still kinda bugged that it was only 102º in the hot room today. and everyone was acting like it was the hottest class ever! i’ll admit, i *did* enjoy my coconut water after class. oh! you know what else i enjoyed? i took @writeouschick’s lead and had a post-yoga cheeseburger, fries and milkshake! from the local burger shack, jack’s, it was bombtastic and om nom nom at the same time. much gratitude for another beautiful day. ~m

interior #3

interior, tony and alba’s. pizza anyone? last night’s dinner with the m, d & s. nice to have my family in town for a few days. i pedaled to the beach, after they left today, feeling a little bit lonely. i’m lucky to have my folks in my life. every time i’m with them, i realize how much i’ve become like my dad. not just mannerisms, but even dumb things like wondering if those white wispy things you see floating in the air have any conscious control over their flight. you don’t have to know what i’m talking about, but after they left, i saw 2 on west cliff, like they were following me.

no bikram today, but lots of biking. betty white won an emmy for her guest host spot on saturday night live! hope your saturday was as nice as mine. back to bikram tomorrow ~m

fire spinner

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

fire spinner at the light house. or should i say the surf museum? i say apple, you say tomato. this was the perfect ending to my day. i started out on the wharf, at the polynesian festival. spent some time with a new friend and i think she likes me. then rounded out the day by watching the fire spinners. pretty great day in santa cruz, at least in my world.

day two of no bikram yoga. i think my abs are looking a little more defined. we’ll see tomorrow when i look in the mirror for 90 minutes. xo,m

two desert dreams

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

it’s my dad’s bday! my mom sent me a picture of their picnic today and the bikram bender in me wrote back, “tell my dad to sit up straight!” you’re never too old to correct bad posture, right? check out my dad’s band, from 1969, lil lavair and the fabulous jades, “i’d be so happy.” “if you would only show me the way, into your heart….” mmmmmm, i love that girl on the right. she looks just like my second wife…and i’ve only been married once! ha ha.

day one of two days off of bikram yoga. my back wasn’t as cranky as it usually is when i take a day off. we’ll see how i feel tomorrow. xox,m
